On 5 October, Unicef Belgium has launched an important educational campain 'Apprendre pour Survivre' / 'Learn to Survive' in order to increase public and government awareness about the fact that very often after or even during a humanitarian crisis, a lot of children can not go to shool.

According to Unicef Belgium, no child should wait until the end of a humanitarian crisis to be educated or to go back to shool. We can not accept that in 2011, there are still 67 million children who do not have access to basic education. It is even more unacceptable that 42% of these children use to live in countries affected by heavy conflicts.

Without education and without protection, the children are loosing not only their childhood but also their future. In addition to injure and kill millions of people, these emergencies disrupt normal life, separating children from their families, forced displacement and ruining the schools.

The objective of this Unicef campain is to emphasize the fact that the children should not wait any longer for an hypothethic end of a crisis to be taken in charge, to go to shools and to be educated again. Unicef says that education is the best lever to break the cycle of violence and poverty ; the right to education is an integral part of humanitarian responses when emergencies and dramas like in the Horn of Africa occur.

To join the campain and in the same time force our political authorities to take action, you'll find more information on this Unicef page.
