Pictures

Throughout my career as a polar explorer, I've been lucky enough to be able to see beautiful landscapes, meet incredible people and live extraordinary adventures.

I've tried to capture these moments on film (in some cases I've been accompanied by a professional photographer) and I'd like to share some of these with you. Enjoy!

Here are 48 photos taken during my last guided trek in the middle of the Arctic Ocean (April 2010). I had six customers with me. And we have done what we call 'The Last Degree'. After having travelled to Longyearbyen, we flew in an Antonov 74 to the temporary Russian drifting base called Barneo.

  • Because of the cold temperatures, an open lead used to freeze quite rapidly and offered new routes for the way ahead.

From Barneo, the group has been walking to the North Pole: a distance of about 111 kilometres for the last degree of latitude. After having reached the North Pole, a MI-8 helicopter came to pick us up and flew the group back to Barneo.
