Throughout my career as a polar explorer, I've been lucky enough to be able to see beautiful landscapes, meet incredible people and live extraordinary adventures.
I've tried to capture these moments on film (in some cases I've been accompanied by a professional photographer) and I'd like to share some of these with you. Enjoy!

Here is the gallery of my expedition to the mount Kangchenyunga, east Nepal, I made in the year 1987. The Kangchenjunga is the third highest mountain in the world (after Mount Everest and K2), with an elevation of 8,586 metres. Kangchenjunga means "The Five Treasures of Snows", as it contains five peaks, four of them over 8,450 metres.

The treasures represent the five repositories of God, which are gold, silver, gems, grain, and holy books. Kangchenjunga is called Sewalungma in the local Limbu language, translates as 'Mountain that we offer Greetings to'.

1852: The height of Mt Everest is calculated based on the results of the 1849 British Great Trigonometric Survey, and it is discovered that Kangchenjunga is no longer the highest mountain in the world as previously thought, but the third highest at 28,169 feet (8586 meters).

After several attempts the mountain was first climbed in 1955 by a British expedition lead by Charles Evans. The first ascent was by George Band and Joe Brown. On the following day Norman Hardie and Tony Streather.
